Hundreds of thousands of High School student athletes have had their careers cut short due to the current shutdown of our Schools.   VNN Sports and the WPIAL Athletic Directors wanted to give some of these Students added recognition as they get ready to move on to the next phase of their lives.  Our senior Student Athlete spotlight series continues with Amaris Smith from West Mifflin:

West Mifflin Area Track and Field

 PLANS AFTER WM: To attend Penn State University majoring in law in society then going into law school to become a discrimination lawyer.

ACTIVITIES/CLUBS: Secretary/treasurer of National Honors Society, executive board member of TLC, Key Club, Tri-M Honors choir, Homecoming Court
ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS:  Receiving MVP 2 years in a row for indoor track, getting 6th place at wpials Junior year at the indoor championship meet, getting placed #4 for the 300 Intermediate hurdles for school’s best.
FAVORITE HS SPORTS MEMORY: When my teammates (Keona Adams, Kilisse Poindexter & Zaria Reid) and I got #2 of all time best 4×100 relay team in the school. Sad to say we couldn’t beat the record this year.FAVORITE ATHLETE: My brother Terry Tank Smith

If you are a local WPIAL School Athletic Director or coach and you have Spring sport seniors that you would like to see spotlighted here please email vnncares@vnnsports.net.  Include up to TWO images per athlete along with information about the Seniors that you would like to see highlighted.  There is no deadline for this program and we will be running multiple spotlights daily.  Due to the current nature of our situation, this will be an ongoing feature with no current timeline for an end date.
